Starters International Business (SIB)

Starters International Business (SIB) helps Dutch entrepreneurs make a durable entrance on the international market. As shortlisted consultant, companies can obtain subsidised advice from EMSA Emerging Markets Africa for their international business expansion. The SIB programme is carried out by the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO.nl) on behalf of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Who can apply?

The SIB programme is open to Dutch entrepreneurs that fall in the category of small and medium-sized enterprises. These companies can be completely new to the international market or have had occasional experiences with export here and there, but they should be in need of coaching to bring more focus to their international strategy. Eligible companies should have the financial means to hire a consultant for SIB and the steps resulting from the SIB exercise.

What is the procedure?

The SIB programme works with vouchers. Entrepreneurs can apply for a voucher using the application form under the guidance of a consultant selected by the entrepreneur. In addition, the entrepreneur has to sign a de-minimis statement. Once RVO.nl considers the entrepreneur to fit the target group, the entrepreneur has to use the voucher within six months. During the first session, the entrepreneur hands the voucher over to the advisor. The entrepreneur can obtain one voucher per year.

What are the costs?

Hiring EMSA for SIB costs a standard fee of €2,400 (excl. 20% VAT). The voucher to be acquired from RVO covers the full amount. At the end, EMSA sends an invoice for the remaining amount (€504) to the entrepreneur. The VAT is paid by the entrepreneur and can be deducted.
